Quite frequently, there is some optimisation potential in the wood-based product industry. It is revealed by a holistic view of the production line. Therefore it is most important to take into account the know-how of the machine suppliers and the experience of the production management.

Modern automation technology has a key function in this process. Without automation technology it would be impossible to run industrial plants efficiently. The increasing demands to improve the efficiency of the production processes and the product quality and to reduce the production costs require most complex technologies.

Not only are there bottlenecks to be eliminated from the production process. It is also important to adjust the machines and measurement systems involved and to analyse all product changes.

Only the correct interaction of technological know-how, engineering, process automation and the operators' experience will translate into success.

Automation must render optimal machine dependability. Downtimes and interfaces have to be reduced. The innovative EWS measuring systems with integrated GAUGE-CONTROLLERS help to meet all these requirements.

The GAUGE-CONTOLLER is a high-tech module developed by EWS which captures the measuring data in real time and makes them available for a direct connection via field bus or via network.

Function:

  • The GAUGE-CONTROLLER has been specifically developed to support the automation technology in the wood-based product industry.
  • The data reading e.g. of thickness gauges, delamination detectors, weight-per-unit-area gauges, board scales and moisture meters and the response times take place in real time.
  • The data are exchanged with a PLC via field bus. Communication to superordinate process control systems is effected via network. The use of a PC is not obligatory.
  • Unless there is a process control system installed, the data can be visualised on a PC based on Windows NT, Windows 2000 or XP.
