CONTI-SCALE

for MDF, HDF, Particleboard, OSB and OSL

Data sheet:  PDF (117 KB)

Continuous measurement of the board weight.

Today's high speeds in thin-board production do no longer allow for a measurement stop. Besides, mechanical board scales render inaccurate results because of the unfavourable ratio between tare weight and board weight. Conti-Scale is a continuous board scale, measuring the board weight very accurately during conveyance. That includes, of course, endless board in continuous production.

Especially during thick-board production it is most advantageous that the weight distribution can be assessed as well. For it enables to optimise forming, resulting in raw material savings and acceleration of the entire process.

In combination with data obtained from a thickness gauge it is possible to assess the density distribution within the boards.

Function:

CONTI-SCALE is a non-contact measuring system using several sensors to assess the weight distribution in longitudinal and transverse direction.
In combination with a thickness gauge the density distribution is displayed.

Visualization:

  • 19“ industrial computer
  • server hard disc (24 h operation)
  • hard disc in alternate frame
  • RAID controller for data backup
(mirroring to a second hard disc)
  • Ethernet LAN
  • wide range power pack
  • Monitor TFT 19“ and colour printer

Analysis:

  • weight distribution lengthwise and crosswise
  • density distribution lengthwise and crosswise (in combination with the thickness  gauge)
  • trend and history functions

Options:

  • network connection
  • ProfiBus, DeviceNet
  • customer-specific software

  • before or after the diagonal saw
  • along the endless mat

Technical Data:

Technology: very low ionizing radiation source
Am 241, 35MBq (1mCi)
Measuring tracks: any number
normal: 3 to 7
Measuring range: 2 to 40 kg/m2
Measuring accuracy: in dependence on the board thickness: (see chart next page)
Remote maintenance: via modem or VPN

Evaluation by EWS „GAUGE-CONTROLLER“:

  • Real time operating system
  • Field bus connection for data transfer
  • Network connection for visualization PC

Benefits:

  • not affected by production speed, vibrations and high temperatures
  • as little space required as 300 mm (12 inch)
  • continuous measuring, no board stop required
  • non-contact, no movable parts
  • modular design, 1 to 7 measuring tracks
  • insensitive against high speeds and vibration
  • little space required compared to mechanical board scales
  • analysis of the weight distribution lengthwise and crosswise to production direction
  • display of  density distribution lengthwise and crosswise to production direction in combination with the thickness gauge
  • low investment costs compared to a mechanical board scale
  • no re-calibration required due to consistently stable measuring signals
  • a slew mechanism protects the sensors against delamination peaks
  • low radiation intensity, Am 241, 35mBq per track (1 mCi), easier procedure to obtain approval by the regulatory authorities

(The exposure rate at a distance of 0.1 m to the source during 50 h is equal to the exposure rate a person receives from space during a 10 h flight at 12000 m altitude.)

Important:

The above mentioned percentage values refer
to the surface unit weight.

The percentage measuring accuracies of
mechanical board scales refer to the max.
measuring range of the load cells.
